Best times to trade crypto: when Bitcoin and altcoins really move

Crypto never closes, but volume and volatility follow a daily rhythm. The hours that matter, the quiet periods to avoid and how weekends differ.

By the Axora Funded Research Team

Crypto markets are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. That does not mean every hour is equal. Volume and volatility rise and fall with the traditional market sessions and with the habits of the large crypto exchanges.

The active windows

  • European morning (around 07:00–10:00 UTC): volume picks up as Europe starts trading.
  • US session (around 13:30–17:00 UTC): the busiest period, with US stock market and data influence.
  • Daily open at 00:00 UTC: many crypto traders use the UTC daily candle, and moves around it are common.

Quieter periods

Late US evening to early Asian hours can be quieter, with tighter ranges and occasional sudden spikes on thin liquidity. Weekends tend to have lower volume, which can mean slower moves or sharp, short-lived ones.

Weekends and prop rules

Crypto trades at weekends, but your account's rules decide whether you can hold positions then. On programmes with a weekend close, plan your crypto trades to finish on Friday.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best time of day to trade Bitcoin?

Usually during the US session, roughly 13:30–17:00 UTC, when volume and volatility are highest.

Is weekend crypto trading a good idea?

Volume is lower and moves can be erratic. Check your account rules first; some programmes close positions before the weekend.
