Your personal daily stop: protecting the prop firm daily limit

The firm's daily loss limit is the last line of defence, not the target. How to set a personal daily stop at half of it and why it saves challenges.

By the Axora Funded Research Team

The daily loss limit (4% on the 2-Step, 3% on the 1-Step) is the point where the account fails. If that is the only daily stop you have, you will sometimes reach it. Professional traders set their own stop well before it.

Set it at half

A personal daily stop at half of the firm's limit (2% on a 4% limit) leaves a buffer for slippage, open trades and the bad decisions that tend to follow a red day. When you hit it, the session ends.

Combine it with trade limits

  • Stop after two losing trades, even if the daily stop is not reached.
  • Stop after your maximum number of trades.
  • On a red day, do not open a new trade in the last hour 'to recover'.

Make it automatic

Write the daily stop in money, not percent, at the start of the session ($2,000 on a $100K account). Check equity, not balance. When the number is touched, close the platform.
