How the BTCUSD lot size is calculated
Position size = risk in dollars ÷ (stop distance × value per unit). On BTCUSD, one point ($1) is worth $1.00 per standard lot, so a $1,200 stop costs $1,200.00 per lot. $250 ÷ $1,200.00 = 0.2 lots (rounded down to the 0.01 step).
Spread add a little to the real cost of each trade, so many traders round down further. Calculated at the current BTCUSD price of 81,079.48.
The $25K rules in BTCUSD price moves
Rules are set in dollars, but you watch the BTCUSD chart. This is how far price can move against a 0.2-lot position before each limit is reached:
- Classic: target $2,500 ($12,500) + $1,250 ($6,250), daily loss $1,000 ($5,000), max loss $2,000 ($10,000), all with 0.2 lots.
- At 1% risk per trade it takes 4 losing trades in a single day to hit the Classic daily limit.
- 1-Step: target $2,500 ($12,500), daily loss $750 ($3,750), max loss $1,500 trailing ($7,500), all with 0.2 lots.
- At 1% risk per trade it takes 3 losing trades in a single day to hit the 1-Step daily limit.
- Ascent: target $1,250 ($6,250) + $1,250 ($6,250) + $1,250 ($6,250), daily loss $750 ($3,750), max loss $1,500 ($7,500), all with 0.2 lots.
- At 1% risk per trade it takes 3 losing trades in a single day to hit the Ascent daily limit.
- Spark: target $2,000 ($10,000), daily loss $500 ($2,500), max loss $1,000 ($5,000), all with 0.2 lots.
- At 1% risk per trade it takes 2 losing trades in a single day to hit the Spark daily limit.
Maximum BTCUSD position size on $25K
With 1:5 leverage one lot needs about $16,216 of margin, so a $25K account could open about 1.54 lots in total. That is a margin ceiling, not a target: the daily loss limit is the real constraint.
When BTCUSD moves most
Liquidity peaks when the US market is open; macro data (CPI, FOMC) and ETF flows move it strongly. Weekends are thinner but can be volatile. Size down around those moments: wider swings mean a wider stop, and a wider stop with the same risk means fewer lots.
