How the EURUSD lot size is calculated
Position size = risk in dollars ÷ (stop distance × value per unit). On EURUSD, one pip is worth $10.00 per standard lot, so a 20 pips stop costs $200.00 per lot. $250 ÷ $200.00 = 1.25 lots (rounded down to the 0.01 step).
Spread and commission add a little to the real cost of each trade, so many traders round down further. Calculated at the current EURUSD price of 1.12393.
The $25K rules in EURUSD price moves
Rules are set in dollars, but you watch the EURUSD chart. This is how far price can move against a 1.25-lot position before each limit is reached:
- Classic: target $2,500 (200 pips) + $1,250 (100 pips), daily loss $1,000 (80 pips), max loss $2,000 (160 pips), all with 1.25 lots.
- At 1% risk per trade it takes 4 losing trades in a single day to hit the Classic daily limit.
- 1-Step: target $2,500 (200 pips), daily loss $750 (60 pips), max loss $1,500 trailing (120 pips), all with 1.25 lots.
- At 1% risk per trade it takes 3 losing trades in a single day to hit the 1-Step daily limit.
- Ascent: target $1,250 (100 pips) + $1,250 (100 pips) + $1,250 (100 pips), daily loss $750 (60 pips), max loss $1,500 (120 pips), all with 1.25 lots.
- At 1% risk per trade it takes 3 losing trades in a single day to hit the Ascent daily limit.
- Spark: target $2,000 (160 pips), daily loss $500 (40 pips), max loss $1,000 (80 pips), all with 1.25 lots.
- At 1% risk per trade it takes 2 losing trades in a single day to hit the Spark daily limit.
Maximum EURUSD position size on $25K
With 1:100 leverage one lot needs about $1,124 of margin, so a $25K account could open about 22.24 lots in total. That is a margin ceiling, not a target: the daily loss limit is the real constraint.
When EURUSD moves most
Most active during the London session and the London–New York overlap (13:00–17:00 London time); big moves on ECB and Fed decisions, NFP and CPI. Size down around those moments: wider swings mean a wider stop, and a wider stop with the same risk means fewer lots.
